Pre School and Toddlers
Week 1 - Tuesday 3-1-12 – Remember what you did at Christmas – This week we would really like it if every child could bring in a photograph of themselves with their family at Christmas. From this we hope to encourage lots of chat as they tell us all about their Christmas. We will then support the children to draw pictures of their family using the photo as a guide. Finally we hope the children will dictate to us what they did at Christmas so they can see their words in writing.
Week 2 – Monday 9-1-12 – We really want to give those little fingers a work out – so this week we are doing weaving. We will be using lots of wool and ribbon and so if you have any spare at home, please can we have some. We will also be taking another look at the pre-school in The Gambia and might send over some photos and letters helping us think about how other people live.
Week 3 – Monday 16 -1-12 – Lots of counting and number recognition all week. We will be using our ‘whizzy ‘cars to help engage the children in counting activities and also encourage them to park in the correct numbered car parking bay. Pointing out numbers that we see as we go shopping is a good way of helping to consolidate these skills, as is counting steps and anything we pass.
Week 4 – Monday 23 -1- 12 – Using various tools safely and appropriately. We want the children to not only be able to use tools effectively, enabling them to effect change on various materials, but to also have an understanding of how to use knives and scissors safely. To encourage children to anticipate a danger its worth sitting them down and asking them to think what ‘might happen if’. This will help them to develop the habit of thinking through problems for themselves without always being given the answer.
Week 5 – Monday 30 - 1- 12 – This is my favourite story – For the next two weeks we would like the children to bring in their favourite story book. We would really welcome any adults that felt they would like to read to the children. The activities that take place in these weeks will be entirely lead by the children and will be probably be based around these stories. This is a wonderful project to be involved in and helps promote a love of books with the children. We are planning a ‘ dress as your favourite character’ day sometime - more details to follow.
Week 6 - Monday 6-2-12 – Continue bringing books to share.
Half term week starts Monday 13th Feb.
We start our new term on Monday 20th Feb
As always we welcome any parent that wishes to come and share a skill, tell a story or get messy painting at Little Punnetts. In week one Vicky is going to start make wool pompoms with the children to give those little fingers an extra workout and a little help with this would be wonderful.
The weather is getting tricky so keep an eye on our web page in case we have to shut the pre-school.
Please ensure your child has mittens, a hat and warm coat as the weather is so cold now all the time.
Games Library – We will be lending games out that are appropriate for eavch childs attainment level. Please have fun with these are return them after one week. There will not be a game to go home each week just a few times over the term.
